Crossing from Vietnam to Cambodia? Here’s What You Should Know Before Reaching Bavet Border

If you’re planning to travel from Vietnam to Cambodia by land, especially through the Bavet International Border (Svay Rieng Province), there’s an important checkpoint procedure you should be aware of. This post will guide you through the interview requirement, passport validity, and a few essential travel tips to make your border crossing smooth and stress-free.

Who Needs an Interview at Bavet Border

Not every traveler can pass through the Bavet checkpoint right away. Certain nationalities are required to undergo an interview upon arrival before entry to Cambodia is granted.

If your passport belongs to one of the following countries, please note that you’ll need to complete this brief immigration interview process before proceeding with your trip:

List of Nationalities Requiring Interview:
Afghanistan, African countries, Bangladesh, China, Ethiopia / Nigeria, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Syria, Yemen. The interview usually involves basic questions about your purpose of visit, duration of stay, and accommodation details in Cambodia.

What You Should Prepare

Before arriving at the border, make sure you have the following ready:

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your entry date
  • A valid visa (if required)
  • Return ticket or onward travel proof (for some cases)
  • Accommodation details in Cambodia (hotel booking or local contact)

Having these documents ready will help minimize waiting time and ensure a smoother entry process.

Important Notice for Travelers

In the event that a passenger is delayed at the border due to immigration procedures and subsequently misses the scheduled bus, VET Air Bus shall not be held liable for the delay or any resulting inconvenience.

However, as a gesture of goodwill, if seats are available on a later departure within the same day, our team will gladly assist with rebooking the passenger onto the next available bus of the same vehicle type — at no additional cost. We always recommend allocating sufficient time for border clearance and preparing all documents beforehand to avoid unnecessary delays.

Travel Tip from VET Air Bus

If you’re traveling from Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh, or continuing your journey to destinations like Siem Reap, Kampot, or Sihanoukville, it’s always best to:

  • Book your bus tickets in advance (especially during weekends and holidays)
  • Arrive early at the station or border
  • Keep a printed copy of your travel documents for inspection

💜 Tip: Always double-check your visa eligibility and entry requirements before traveling — border policies may vary depending on your nationality.
